If you’re looking for a way to make your ads more effective, capture more attention and get you more clients…
This article will show you exactly that.
Many businesses drain their advertising budget and they don't even know it.
This is because they don’t have a clear understanding of the return on investment.
The results of the ad makes them wonder “Did my ad even perform?”
It’s not just small businesses, large companies drain their budget all the time! Betting money on ads hoping for it to perform. (That’s a subject for another time)
Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
Most Businesses Have No Idea If Their Investment Turns Into Profit.
So how did I find out about this?
Let’s start from the beginning.
I vividly remember writing my first ad. I hated every second of it.
And as I sat there staring at the blank page I realized I had no idea how to create a great ad for a small business!
So I decided to research the subject to find out
The #1 Reason Why Most Ads Don’t Perform
Some sources told me to use a cute baby animal in the ad - makes people want to pay attention.
Others say the ad is supposed to be funny to enhance brand-name recognition.
“It’s to establish thought leadership. Being seen as an expert is a long game.”
“Well, it's about staying top-of-mind, isn't it? We need to remain in the public eye.”
Sure, I knew what those words meant. I remember reading about it.
But I still had no idea how that would generate more sales.
Then I came across a story about a man that grew his company that decided to interview his directors.
“Who's in charge of marketing here?”
The marketing director said he was.
So he asked “How do you test ads? How do you know which ad is the best?”
The man answered “When we make a new ad… I get a bottle of whiskey, and sort of lock myself in my office all night. And then in the morning… we have our new ad!”
“I know it’s the best because I made it!” He added.
Whiskey bottle was empty, and the man was very proud of the process. A working machine.
And that’s when he gets introduced to a concept that will…
Generated You More Clients and More Sales
When I spend money on something I measure what it does.
If I buy equipment I make sure the equipment does what it is supposed to do.
If I buy lunch I make sure it arrives and it’s exactly as ordered.
If I pay a vendor I make sure he gets the job done on time and on budget.
But try to do this with marketing and see what happens. You get buried in jargon like:
‘Well, this ad is to get our logo out there, so they know who we are’
‘We’re focused on top of mind awareness in our market’
‘This campaign is set up to solidify our branding and brand positioning’
Those are nice words. But you still have no idea what your return on investment was.
Because we can’t pay staff with ‘top of mind awareness’. And we can’t pay the rent with ‘brand name recognition’, can we?
I decided to get to the bottom of it and figure out…
The Formula for Effective Marketing.
The good news? You can implement this for your business today, it’s very simple.
It’s called ‘Pearson’s Law’.
“What is measured, improves.”
Want to immediately and dramatically increase ad results?
Make them measurable by adding a response mechanism. A call to action in every ad that asks the prospect to do something.
And then you monitor that action like a hawk.
Now you can measure. Test. Figure out what works and what doesn’t.
One of the first things I do when I start working with clients is implement this simple rule:
“Every ad we run needs to be measurable, no exceptions.”
No more jargon. No more vague marketing gobbledygook. Measurable, tangible, solid results.
There’s plenty of ways to do this and it’s doable for every single business, yours included.
