Are you ignoring your customers without realizing it?

Sounds like a weird question but I see it happen all the time! Marketing focused on pleasing the board of directors, meeting diversity quotas...

but not attracting the most ideal client for your business.

So let’s make marketing easier for yourself. In the next 3 minutes I’ll show you how to attract your perfect customers.

I’ve seen businesses grow massively, after they fix this one simple step. I don’t have a seat belt but if you do, buckle up! We’re about to start.

So What Is The Perfect Customer?

When I work with clients I ask lots of questions. One of them is “What is your perfect customer?” And once in a while, their response is…

“Everyone! We sell to everyone!”

No you don’t. For 2 reasons:

  1. Not everyone needs your product or service.

  2. If you try to sell to everyone, you appeal to no one.

Here let me explain. Picture a busy train station. People everywhere, crowded, noisy, chaos.

In that crowd is a certain someone and you HAVE to get his attention.

How would you do it?

You could stand on a bench and hope you get his attention.

You could ask people one by one. But with thousands of people that’s hardly practical.

The best way to get his attention?

Shout his name.

Why would that message reach him? Because it speaks directly to that person.

Makes sense, but what does it have to do with reaching your perfect client?

Fixing Bleeding Necks

Your message should target people who genuinely want and need your product – we call these 'bleeding necks'.

They have a problem, a desire, something they really want. And your service gets them what they want.

Something they want to solve right away. An itch they want to scratch ASAP.

Also referred to as "a starving crowd" by Gary Halbert.

They are eager to buy and are willing to pay a premium for it. So you don't have to convince them to buy something they don't need.

Because they already want to buy what you have.

So that's why it's always a good idea to reach these people with your marketing message, and you'll solve every marketing and sales problem.

So here’s how you can

Reach Your Perfect Customer

Imagine you run a fine-dining steakhouse, in theory you could try to sell to everyone that’s hungry.

But let’s say your most popular item on the menu is a specific type of steak.

So instead of targeting everyone that’s hungry, we target specific types of people that enjoy our food and are most likely to buy.

The WORST way to reach those perfect clients is to put up an ad or a post saying something like:

Best Steaks in Town at Joe’s Steakhouse

We make the best foods for everyone! Vegetarians, vegans, meat-lovers, and everyone in between!

Here’s our menu:

  • Sushi

  • Garden salads

  • Vegan burgers

  • The finest selection of steaks

  • Gluten-free pasta dishes

If you’re hungry, come on in, and we'll cook something or anything for everyone!

See the issue?

It’s trying to sell to everyone with a message that's so bland, so lame, so nondescript… that no one is going to think:

“This is for ME!”

And that’s the response we want our perfect client to have is

“This is for me. This solves what I need. This person gets what I’m dealing with.”

So, don’t be afraid to stand out and tailor your message to your perfect client.
